Tucson, AZ – October 6, 2008 – Universal Avionics Systems Corporation announced the FAA TSO-C109 and EASA ETSO-C109 Certification of its Solid State Data Transfer Unit (SSDTU) at the 61st Annual NBAA Convention in Orlando, FL. This approval makes the SSDTU available for immediate delivery. The SSDTU is a data transfer device that provides centralized loading and downloading of data from several Universal Avionics’ products. The 2-in-1 functionality of the SSDTU eliminates the need for a separate data-loader for Flight Management System (FMS) updates and another for Jeppesen Charts, TAWS or Synthetic Vision updates. It incorporates high speed Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0) and Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) technologies that replace floppy, Zip and CD/DVD disks used by older data transfer devices. In fact, TAWS and Vision-1® databases load 5 and 3 times faster, respectively, than with Universal’s DTU-100. At under 2 ½ lbs, the SSDTU weighs 72% less than a fixed-mount DTU-100 and Accessible Data Unit (ADU) combo installation. And larger memory capacity of the USB flash drive reduces the number of disks used to upload databases and saves time. Pilots can conveniently save their flight plans on any commercially available USB flash drive or SD card for loading into the FMS. “Our customers will appreciate loading all databases with one device, improved load speeds, andthe ability to use standard USB devices instead of disks for loading all their data,” says Dan Reida, Vice President of Marketing. Available in fixed–mount and portable models, the SSDTU has the same fit as the DTU-100 and in most cases, would be considered a direct replacement with only minor wiring and connector changes. It features a multi-port Ethernet network to simultaneously support up to eight compatible products, which include Universal’s FMS, TAWS, Vision-1, UniLink 70X, Application Server Unit (ASU) and Universal Cockpit Display (UCD) systems.
